I have a few notes and updates. There are several things that I need to collect, so read on!
First off, we have had lots of great classmates achievements. Third Graders Rock!!! We had four students enter the science fair this year. Elizabeth, Riley, Jocelyn, and Rohith each created and presented outstanding projects and are to be commended for their extra efforts. Jocelyn won the science fair trophy for third grade!!! What super students we have. Rohith did a stupendous job representing our class in the school spelling bee last week. He won runner-up for the entire school! Congratulations to Rohith- he's the guy to see for any spelling questions! Furthermore, I just received news this evening that Rohith continued to make us proud in a chess tournament. Oak Grove's 3rd grade Team - Alex Shipley, Finley Hooker and Rohith Madhuker- won a 3rd place U Class Team trophy for Oak Grove! Rohith also won a 2nd place individual trophy for the Triangle Chess Championship. I would also like to add a shout out to Landon Hall who also won an individual trophy for 2nd grade. Landon comes to math with our class daily as a 2nd grade SSA student.
We have been busy getting back into the groove of school. We are hard at work in the third quarter already! We will have our "New To You" auction this Friday, 1/23/15. Please send in toys on Tuesday - Thursday of this week. These can be anything like a gently used book, unused art supplies, that extra purse or wallet that your child received as a gift and never used, or other toys that may have been gently used but are no longer of interest to your child. Please do not send pierced earnings, used or open makeup, perfume, or toys that look like weapons. I would also like to collect large grocery paper bags with handles - one per child. As you are at the grocery store, please ask for a few extra and send in for our "purchases".
On January 17th we will have a Science Made Fun in-school field trip. We will explore and investigate properties of matter. Please send in $2.50 in cash or check made out to OGES by Friday, 1/23/15.
Track out is coming up. Please have your child continue to read daily over track out and to talk about their reading. Also, please dedicate 5 days a week to continue to study multiplication and division facts. We are beginning to roll on learning these and I do not want the student to digress. This is a new skill and they still need daily refreshers.
Valentines Day- we will trade Valentine's Cards on Tuesday, January 17th. Look for a class list to come home with Monday folders before trackout. Also, please send in a cleaned out, gallon milk or water jug this week. If you have extras we would love them as I am sure not everyone will have this. We will use this to make our Valentine's bucket.
The following is a note from Mrs. Sammons
Dear Parents,
Semester 2 information will be available at the end of the month as pre-tests are taking place the first 3 weeks. Please feel free to visit my blackboard site for updates throughout the semester. I will have test dates for classes as well as power points for expectations. You can look in Semester 1 and click on a grade level to go to the WCPSS Healthful Living Site to access the information ahead of time as well. However, the expectations may not be the same on this site as I will require for students. This is a good resource however to use to learn the cues for the skills as well learning some information. Please let me know if you have any questions.
