As I sent an update just this week, I only have a few items to add to our biweekly newsletter.
Report Card issue date is changed from 9/25 to 9/30. I will send out a conference invite by the end of next week.
Writing Homework: Beginning Monday, we will have weekly reading and writing homework. This can be part of their nightly reading time. The students will be given an article to read (later they will respond to a reading of their choice). They will have a question which they must respond to in writing which reflects our learning goal for the week. The responses will include references to the text to support their thinking. In order for them to be successful, the students will have a weekly graphic organizer to fill out before attempting to respond in writing. The graphic organizers will help them to organize their thinking! Please excuse my drawing as I may create freehand some graphic organizers in the future. I will send home instructions in Monday folders and I have posted them on line under the "information for cool otters" tab.
Class Needs: We have begun our Goldsmith School Store for rewards. The kids were thrilled with their purchases last week. We do the store every 3 weeks and the kids spend their earned money (points) on school items. We would love to have more donations to stock our store. Favorites and suggestions include: stickers, smelly stickers, googly eye stickers, inexpensive mechanical pencils, smelly pencils, fun pens, smelly pens and markers, book marks, small tablets, silly straws, small sticky pads (I pull the large cubes apart and make more prizes), fun erasers, etc.
Geography Bee: Oak Grove Elementary Announces Participation in the National Geographic Bee
Love to learn about the world we live in? Please read the information below about the National Geography Bee coming to Oak Grove.
What is a Geography Bee?
Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to inspire students to be curious about the world. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging competition. National Geographic Bee will be conducted similar to Spelling Bee, where a winner from the school may have an opportunity to qualify for the state championship. One state champion will represent the state at the National level
Next Steps
Once we have 6 students signed up, we will send communications on the details and timeline for school competition dates. Please email [email protected] BY OCTOBER 10th to register for this opportunity!
