With the holiday break fast approaching, I wanted to update everyone to the happenings in our class and around the school.
School:
This week is national computer week. Our kids will have a special guest speaker on Wednesday to talk about computers. They will learn about coding on Friday and subsequently may want to check out the following website to become coders! code.org/minecraft
Science fair is coming up on January 10th. Many of our kiddos have signed up and we look forward to learning about their experiments.
Class:
This Friday, Dec. 16th is our grade level holiday celebration. The kids will rotate around the grade and have different holiday learning experiences in each classroom. Our room is hosting a STEM challenge. The time for this event is 1:45 - 3:15. This is a student event (not a parent event) as the focus is educational and learning.
Tuesday, Dec. 20th (tentative date) we will have an in class reading celebration. The kids will enjoy a guest reading a holiday book, a hot chocolate bar, and then get cozy up by the "fire" (on the SMART Board) with a good book.
We will finish up with lower case cursive this week. After the holidays I will continue to send home practice sheets. Please encourage your child to write cursive as much as possible- they must train their hands and mind to master this new skill. We will pick back up with cursive instruction, upper case, later in the year.
Multiplication fluency- When we return in the New Year, we will begin multiplication fluency. If you have time over the holiday, you may begin by working on fluency with easy facts like- 2's (doubles), 5's, and 10's. More information to come in the New Year.
