Welcome back from track out! We had a successful first week back. The kids were working hard all week. We have a few important changes and upcoming events for you.
Next week we are celebrating a school wide Kindness Week initiative.
Please have your child wear red as many days as possible to support us. We will spend the week
doing special activities to help kindness grow in our school.
Please send in $2.16 for our Science is Fun in school field trip as soon as possible. We will have fun learning about objects in the sky.
We will switch things up in literacy for the third quarter. Third grade team will group the students for differentiated language arts instruction. Our children will be switching classrooms among myself, Ms. Beck, and Ms. McCuiston. Check out Monday folders for more information regarding this.
In addition to team teaching, we are taking a break on spelling. We will work on vocabulary building
instead.
Kid Biz: All children are required to read two Kid Biz articles of their choosing. They must answer the multiple choice questions and construct a written response using details and evidence from the text. I will grade one of these weekly. I send the kids feedback on their writing via mail on the Kid Biz system. I will also print these up and send them home. I provide at least ½ hour of class time for Kid Biz in school. Kid Biz time can also be nightly reading time, just mark that on your child’s reading log. I have to say that the kids have really stepped up their reading activities and level of writing on the thought questions. They are working hard and their efforts are resulting in improved performance!
Multiplication and Division: It is important that you continue to work nightly with your child on this skill. We are a bit rusty after track out. Fluency with operations is a big indicator of success on the math EOG. While the students will have plenty of time to use other methods to solve
problems, it become too arduous of a task to add up or subtract down for the entire test.
Upcoming events: 2/25/14 5-8 p.m. McTeachers night at the Walnut Street McDonalds 3/3/14 Science is Fun in school field trip 3/7/14: NO EARLY RELEASE-regular dismissal time | What are we learning?
