I hope all of your and your little ones are bundled up on this wintry day enjoying the day at home. I have a few items to note as we track out.
1. Yesterday, our kids performed/read the Charlotte's Web readers' theater for our kindergarten reading buddies. It was a great success and we may have inspired a few budding actors/actresses! Afterwards we enjoyed painting chocolate frosting "mud" on pig sugar cookies and munching them with our little friends. I took pictures and video taped (old-school word :) the performance but accidentally left my ipad at school. I will try to get some footage to you all in the near future.
2. Charlotte's Web reading packet. Those students that spend Daily 5 time with me were given a pig flip book to use while reading. Many of the kids finished and turned it in. About 1/2 of the kiddos still have a little bit to go. With the short, short, week we just did not get to it. I do not assign work over trackout. With that in mind, the packets are not due until the Friday after we track back in. However, I strongly suggest that your child just set a time line to get that done and not wait for 4 weeks to do it. I warned them that in 4 weeks they will not remember the story. I made sure (I hope) that those who still needed a bit more time brought the packet and the book home to work on if they wished.
3. Track out activities for your child- have fun, relax, enjoy the break! Read daily- they'll thank us later! If, on top of all of that, your child would like to enrich their learning and keep their brains sharp and functioning, I have listed a few activities that can be worked on as/if time allows.
- practice multiplication/division facts
- finish Charlotte's Web
- Log on to Kid Biz for reading/question practice
- Log on to Ten Marks for math practice- I have reassigned area/perimeter practice as most did not complete it or can use extra practice. A challenge for many students is finding the missing side lengths in a rectilinear figure (two or more rectangles put together). They can also work on target skills with a Jam session and earn points to play games. I strongly suggest that when they miss an item, they stop and work through they explanation for the correct response so that they understand it. It is helpful to have paper and pencil nearby.
4. We will exchange Valentine's on the Tuesday after we return, 2/16. I put the class in in Monday's folder.
