It's been a while since I wrote a proper newsletter, but I thought I'd start off the New Year right! I hope everyone had a fun and restful trackout. I just have a few items of interest.
Class News: Congratulations to Aeva for 1st place science fair entry and to Eva and Sasha for second place entry. The school was abuzz with news of the third graders rockin' the science fair. There were so many excellent presentations. We had 14 students from our class participate. That is an amazing turn out and thank you to all of the families for supporting this endeavor.
We are doing a bit of enrichment activities at the moment. Our students are joining Mrs. Stephens during the math and science block for a week to allow for in depth science investigations and enrichment math activities. I understand microscopes are involved- what fun!
We are still working to master multiplication. Monday, I will attach RED study reminders to backpacks. Look for one to see which facts your child needs to study.
In literacy the kids are really engaged in their classic books. Thank you all for helping out with obtaining these. Its amazing how "old" stories still inspire and have relevance. Together, we are reading Peter Pan. The kids are enjoying how silly the characters are.
Our Saturday instructional day is coming up. The following lists a few reminders:
- The Saturday make-up/instructional day will be 3 and 1/2 hours (9:15-12:45).
- There will be no breakfast or lunch served, no videos, no recess, no clubs - all time will be spent on core instruction.
- Students should bring a hearty snack to school.
- Ensure that your child knows how he/she is getting home (no YMCA on Saturdays).
