It is great to have the kiddos back. Hopefully we are past the winter weather and look forward to spring's arrival. I have a few items to share and update.
3rd Quarter Interium Reports will be sent home in Monday folders.
Class activities: We have two field trips coming up. We are collecting paperwork and payment for both at the same time. Please look for this in Monday folder and respond a quickly as possible. We are also adopting a class pet. Shelly the hermit crab is joining us from Ms. Murray's 1st grade class. The kids are excited and so is Shelly. She came out of her shell for the trip across the building! Look for permission forms to come home soon so we can hold her.
Language arts: We are finishing up parts of dramas, plays, and text. The kids have really enjoyed this unit- we have a bunch of budding young actors in our class! Our reading buddies enjoyed our performance of Charlotte's Web. I still need to get pictures out for that. Please help remind your child to complete one Kid Biz a week at home. This can take the place of R & R (read and record). Also beginning this week, they are to do one thought question at home and one at school. The expectation is 4-5 sentences, with details from the text to support their thinking. I reviewed with the kids today their progress with Kid Biz. They need to get a 75 % or above for the Kid Biz to count.
Math: We are finishing the Area & Perimeter unit. This is challenging for many as most of the work involves multiple steps. I had the kids work on one lesson this week in Ten Marks during math centers time. They each had a total of 80 minutes to complete 10 problems. I am sending home a Ten Marks "report card" as an assignment grade. You will find this in their Monday folders. I encourage the students to bring pencil and paper to the computer to work out the computations. Thank you as well for your efforts to help your children at home with studying multiplication and division. I can see great improvement with the children.
