I have just a few items to note before we track out.
Today, our school kicked off the annual Booster-Thon fund raiser. Your child brought home information about this in his/her backpacks today. This is our one big fund raiser for Oak Grove, so please consider participating. Look for daily email celebrating our successes next week. The fun-run is next Friday, September 8th at 9:30 - 10:30. Parents are welcome to come and cheer on the children. We will have it rain or shine!
MClass reading reports are coming home in Monday folders. There is usually a slight dip in reading levels so do not be alarmed. We will review these during first quarter conferences.
Look for a sign up genius for conferences this weekend. I plan to do them when we return from track out.
Scholastic book orders are in. The kids will receive their orders on Tuesday. Thank you for all of the participation. With a wee bit of help from Mrs. G placing an order for her child, we made our goal! The kiddos will each get a free book and we have lots of new class books to explore as well.
Things to work on over track out:
Reading: Consider reading a book with your child. Talk about the characters and the actions in the book- what does the character want, how you you know, how does the character end up getting what he/she wants or needs? Have your child back up their thinking with details from the text: "What did you read that made you think about that"... " Why do you think (the character) will___?"... "What did the character say or do that led you to think that will happen?"
Math: We are beginning multiplication and division. Consider having your child play on Cool Otters Math games or download an app on your device for fun practice. Also, look for repeated groups and arrays in real life. Talk about how those can be expressed in a multiplication or repeated addition problem. Notice when you are dividing something up. Talk to your child about how that can be expressed as a division problem or repeated subtraction problem.
Have fun and be safe. We will move classrooms across the hall when we return. I will be sure to point it out to the kiddos before we leave on Friday.
