We have settled in nicely to third grade and are hard at work. At this point the kids have learned their routines, I have learned their names, and we are beginning to embrace the learning challenges of third grade.
In reading we have begun instruction with Wake County's new curriculum, EL Education. We are reading about children facing learning challenges. Look in Monday Folder for parent information about your unit. Our focus in the upcoming unit is reading informational text and writing to informational prompts.
Interim Reports will be in sent home on Friday 8/11/17. Please note: in literacy we have just begun to deeply read and write. Our curriculum is organic and grows over time. As such, we will have limited assessments applied at this point of the quarter.
Math: Thank you all for your support and questions. I am happy to help out as needed to support you at home. The school asked that we get rid of our old text books, as they are not common core aligned. The kids asked to take them home. Use them as you wish- please do not return them. In class we have been working on problem solving using bar math. There is an excellent website that they kids have used that offer great problem solving opportunities. Your child may want to work on this at home if Ten Marks is complete for the week. The kids should be able to get on it through this website, or follow the link: http://www.mathplayground.com/thinkingblocks.html
