Hello families,
It is a busy time of year and it seems like I have had lots of news to pass on lately. I hope everyone enjoys a scrumptious and safe Thanksgiving holiday. When we return, it will be a whirlwind three weeks until we have our winter break. The colonial projects were outstanding. I really enjoyed all of the presentations. I appreciate your help with this at home. I believe all of the students really learned from the experience as well.
I have several news items to pass on:
Spelling Bee- We will have our class spelling Bee on December 18th. Please see the links and information below for the spelling lists and procedures.
As we end the quarter, we will enter into a midyear assessment window. Administration asks that we pass on the following message: We would like to share some information about the procedures for the middle of the year (MOY) and end of the year (EOY) mCLASS assessments. As mandated by the Department of Public Instruction, classroom teachers can no longer administer Text Reading Comprehension (TRC or running records) to their own students. Therefore, classroom teachers will be paired together to administer and score the TRC assessment. This mandate only applies to the TRC. In order to complete these assessments in a timely manner and reduce the loss of instructional time, teachers will be given a day to solely assess students and their students will continue to receive instruction from another grade level teacher. Thank you for your understanding of these new procedures.
Holly Jolly Tree 2014:
The Oak Grove school community is sponsoring the Holly Jolly Tree. This giving tree helps families within the school by providing gifts and clothes. The tree in the front lobby will be decorated with tags listing toys and clothing needs for Oak Grove students. The tree will be "open" on Wednesday, Nov 19.
Parent volunteer are needed for several tasks:
1. Donate clothes and gifts. Take a tag from the tree to fulfill a child's request. We encourage you to shop at local stores and obtain a gift receipt if possible. Return the unwrapped gifts to school by Dec. 12.
2. Donate unopened rolls of holiday themed wrapping paper and / or boxes of black trash bags. Students may turn in the rolls of paper and bags to the front office.
3. Sort and package the donated gifts in preparation for the recipient families. Sign up on the page here: Holly Jolly Tree Parent Volunteers
