I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing track out. We are back for the homestretch of 3rd grade. I am amazed as I reflect back how far your kiddos have come this year. They have all matured academically as well as socially and are getting ready to move up to 4th grade! (Excuse the pause
while I wipe a tear away… I am going to miss these kids).
In math we will kick off with Telling Time. Students need to tell elasped time using an analog (Face) clock. I reccomend that you cover up digital clocks and make your child the family time keeper. Ask questions such as: "What time is it?, Dinner will be in 25 minutes, what time will we have dinner? You have 1 hour and 1/2 until soccer practice, what time will you go? You need to go to bed at 9:00, how much more time do you have to play?"
Important items in Monday Folders!
- CASE 21 results
- Recommended on-line games for EOG
support…keep close by! These will be assigned for homework once we get going on review.
You will note the math CASE gives more focused feedback than the reading. Skills we ALL need to work on in general:
Math-
- Finding missing side of rectangle when given the area ORthe perimeter and length of one side.
- Finding combined area AND perimeter of two rectangles put together (rectlinear figure) without using blocks/grid.
- Recognizing equivalent fractions. For example: which figure shows 1/3? The choice may be a 2/6 shaded figure.
Language Arts-
- Stamina in reading…. This was a very long test. We need to take short mental breaks and then continue to focus. Work on increasing reading time at home.
- Filling in bubble sheets…. We had several misaligned, not neatly bubbled/non-score, and a few
failures to bubble! - Understand vocabulary using context clues. This can be worked on nightly with reading. Look at the book, ask meaning of one word, and then “how do you know”? How does the student use the clues support the meaning?
Getting Ready for the EOGs
- We will no longer have weekly word problems. Instead the students
will have a weekly homework review packet. Take note of what your child
misses or skills of which he/she needed support. Review these
skills frequently. - Continue to practice nightly on multiplication and division fluency
- Read long to support stamina. Talk to your child about the book.
- Visit the “Otter Parent” page of this website. Go to the “McGraw Hill
Education link” Here you will find practice tutorials and independent practice
pages for all of the Language Arts standards. - Visit EOG sample test links and take practice tests. Note items that
your child had trouble with so that you can practice those skills with your child..
