It’s been a while since I sent out a true newsletter. It seems like information that needs to be shared gets zipped to you in a quick email. We have a few events coming up before our winter “slumber” (aka trackout!)
Upcoming events: We have the Hemlocks Bluffs field trip on Wednesday, Dec. 4. We will be back at school for lunch so no need to bring a packed lunch. Do make sure your child is wearing sneakers and appropriate outerwear.
Winter Celebration: On December 5th we will have an educational winter celebration. We will go to Ms. Hoyles’ class for learning about celebrations from around the world. In our class we will play colonial games and make and take a colonial toy.
Track Out Day: The children have earned a PJ day and we will have a read-in. No slippers or stuffed animals please.
Saturday School: We do have Saturday school the day after trackout, December 7th. Please let me know if you do not intend to have your child attend that day.
Science Fair: Slips are coming home in tonight's Monday Folder. There is a tight turn around for submission. I know many kids are excited about this opportunity.
Classroom News:
We will have our diagnostic reading assessment on Tuesday, December 3rd. This is the new Istation program. The kids got a chance to practice online a bit last week. Please let me know if your child will be out that afternoon.
Homework changes: I am switching from the spiral review in math to an online format. This allows me to choose problem types that I know we need to work with, and allows the kids to practice taking math tests online and with multiple choice. I will send home a weekly blank sheet that has the test name and access code on it. Your child will use the paper to show his/her thinking and will turn in the practice sheet on Friday. They will also submit their answers online. We practiced this last week and the kids did great. We will practice again this week. Look for the answer sheet in Monday folder next week for a sample of expected work. If your child does not have access to a computer, please let me know. I can print up the homework.
Reading Next Quarter: Next quarter we will be reading Peter Pan and focus on classic stories. Each child will need to obtain an abridged classic book for in school independent reading. Please look for letter coming home for further information.
